Tour local gardens with your baby!

May 6: Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour (free)

Why bring your baby?  Trees make the best natural mobiles, flowers offer stimulating colors and smells, take your babies hand and feel the acorns, walnuts, perhaps a soft rabbits ear leaf…all for free on the Bring Back the Natives Garden Tour!

“40 bird- and butterfly-friendly, pesticide-free, water conserving, low
maintenance gardens that contain 60% or more native plants will be open on
Sunday, May 6 from 10-5 at various locations throughout Alameda and Contra
Costa counties. Gardens with activities for children include:
San Lorenzo High School’s garden and Native Plant Nursery
10:30-4:30 “Ongoing talk: Native American medicinal and culinary uses
of California native plants” and “Native American games and
activities for children (and adults!)” Spear-throwing, acorn pounding,
walnut dice and more. At the Alatorre garden in Richmond 13 species
of butterflies flutter, and the hosts write: ”Bring your children!
Reclaimed school room chalkboards grace the garden, and are open for use on
the day of the Tour.” Registration by 4/28 is required at
