Oakland Mom2Mom: New Mom Support Group beg Sept 6th, six Tuesdays 10-12pm

Great group for moms (1st and 2nd time) & babies focused on the joys, challenges & humorous moments of this rite of passage. It is a 6 week facilitated group which focuses on helping new moms build a community and meet other moms with babies with similar ages.  There is something about going through a shared experience, while recognizing that each mom’s experience is unique, that leads to great connection and support.

The 6 week facilitated portion is a weekly 2 hour meeting where moms share their experiences, questions, concerns, and get tips on all sorts of topics.  We focus on nonjudgemental support and building connection between the moms, since this can be an overwhelming and isolating time for many moms.  We also provide psycho-education (as wanted) on different topics including infant development, sleep/feeding questions, changes in relationships and family dynamics, transition to motherhood, feelings re: going back to work or not, postpartum health, and identity as a mom.  The group offers lots of support and perspective that can be especially helpful after some sleepless nights!

In addition, we help organize a second meeting during the week for a social outing where moms get together to go for walks or cafe visits, etc. Our last groups have offered free talks with q&a time with a Sleep Consultant and/or  Lactation Consultant. This option is available and arranged on a group to group basis based on the group’s desires. This group will be facilitated by Cathy Carr, LMFT. $190 for six session group (consecutive Tuesdays, 10-12pm). Contact: cathycarr.lmft@gmail.com for more info or to register.

Pediatric Shonishin Clinic beginning in June

Pediatric Shonishin Clinic Beginning this month.

Beginning this June, Solano Avenue Acupuncture will begin holding monthly pediatric clinics. Our first clinic will be Saturday, June 25th from 10AM-2PM at our office and to celebrate we will be giving free treatments to children of all ages. This is a great opportunity to experience shonishin firsthand and learn all of the amazing ways in which it may be helpful to your family. Please see the attached flyer and share with anyone you know who might be interested.

Shonishin is a Japanese-based technique of meridian massage, which involves stroking along energy pathways, tapping specific beneficial acu-points, and using teishin or contact needles to stimulate points that are individually selected to support each child in the best way possible.

Regular shonishin is a great way to maintain health, boost immunity, and ensure smooth and strong energy flow as our children grow and develop. We can also work with specific ailments through shonishin including: colic and digestive upset, constipation, allergies, asthma, eczema, common cold, teething discomfort, ear infections, bedwetting, emotional and behavioral challenges, and much more!

Please call or email to set up an appointment. If you are coming for the first time we encourage you to contact us in advance and schedule a short phone consultation prior to your visit. Drop-ins are also welcome but may involve a wait time.

You can visit our website at www.solanoavenueacupuncture.com to learn more about our shonishin practitioners. Rachel Alkire L.Ac. and Montserrat Corsino L.Ac. will be running our first clinic. Feel free to contact us at shonishinclinic@gmail.com or 510-684-8633 with any questions or to set up an appointment.

Mama Mindful Sitting Group

Mama Mindful Sitting Group

Sunday April 10th 4:00 to 5:30.  Led by Gina Hassan.

Come join other like-minded mamas for a “time in” of intentional reflection, mindfulness practice, introspection, connection and conversation. This gathering will occur in Berkeley on Sunday April 10th from 4:00to 5:30.  Together we will create a safe space with “a time out from doing” and  “a time in for being”.  In the practice of mothering, creating time for internal space can be challenging. As the hub of the family wheel taking time for yourself is a gift to your family, as well as yourself, who rely on your strength and wisdom for their daily sustenance. Join me in this important act of creating space for a mama pause.
This group is for mamas without their little ones, although parents with babies in arms (pre-crawling infants) are welcome. Cost for the gathering is a suggested donation between $25.00 and $35.00 and pre-registration is strongly enrcouraged. RSVP requested.
Meeting  in Berkeley. Please check with Gina for further details or with questions.

Foodie Moms Group

Heard good things about the food and support this mom’s group offers.

Foodie Moms Group
Support group for new mamas

Meeting new moms can be tough, and it can feel like our days are full of isolation caring for babies in our own homes. If you’re looking for other grown ups to talk to, we’re here for you. We get it. If you’re ready to move from sleep deprivation, breastfeeding struggles and feeling on your own to a community of connection and empathetic support, we would love to help you join your village.

Weekly facilitated group meetings are a conversation in a cozy mom and baby-friendly environment. While you feed and care for your baby, we will connect and explore more.

In the group, you’ll:

– get peace of mind and confidence in yourself as a parent
– feel supported and understood by an experienced mama/doula and other new mamas who know how it really is with a newborn
– become part of a group of local mamas who stick together and support one another as our babies grow
– gain confidence getting out of the house
– enjoy a delicious gourmet lunch each week at our meeting (view sample meals)

Space is limited and this group has sold out quickly in the past. If you think you might be interested, you can visit bringingbabieshome.com to learn more and sign up.
